Until this weekend, because no password existed, this entry has always just been ignored. I'm going to assume that clients that are having trouble have erroneously entered their nickserv password into the server password field in their client. As of this weekend, we do have a password set on a *different* SSL port, but I'm guessing that the ircd config makes it possible to enforce a password on either SSL port.

Previously we had no server password set for either SSL or non-SSL ports. This is just a wild guess, but I'm guessing that our changes this weekend might have brought to light a configuration error with various clients. Side note: Gavin believes this could be related to bug 973044 comment 11 and tanner noticed bug 973044 comment 29 mentions a port and password. I thought maybe the SSL cert had expired but pir from #it debunked that: ssl cert on expires next year: notAfter=Aug 31 11:57:03 2015 GMT I have at least 2 other people who can reproduce and we saw this on the concrete and gravel servers. I tested on another irc client and saw the same error.Īliases:, I was finally able to connect using the 6667 port and with the SSL setting disabled. I determined that my password was correct and did not change it. If I changed the port to 6667 but left the SSL setting enabled in my Pidgin irc client, then I consistently received a "SSL Handshake has failed" error. I was met with the "password mismatch" error.
